Famous for his hit singles like Proud Mary and Born on the Bayou, John Fogerty initially rose to prominence as a member of a famous rock band called Creedence Clearwater Revival or CCR. Afterward, Fogerty earned appraisal and popularity as a solo musician in his own right. He is quite popular for his skillful guitar playing as well as his singing. For these traits, Fogerty is also ranked on the #40 spot on Rolling Stone’s list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Times; while on their list of 100 Greatest Singers Fogerty ranks at #72 spot. In his early years, Fogerty originally formed up a band called Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets which was later renamed to The Golliwogs. In 1967, after being discharged from the Army Reserve Unit, Fogerty made his comeback to his life as a musician and the band was once again renamed to Creedence Clearwater Revival. With the release of group’s first hit single titled Suzie Q, the group started getting attention and a number of hit singles followed in shortly after. In later years, certain factors led to decreased sales by the band, which ultimately led to the disbandment of the group.

In 1973, Fogerty kicked off a solo career and took the name The Blue Ridge Rangers prior to releasing a debut LP. Fogerty played all the instruments and initially performed country numbers. Later on he changed his genre back to Rock & Roll as he released singles like Back in the Hills. In 1975, Fogerty came up with his second self-titled studio release, which featured his top 40 hit Rockin’ All Over the World. Amidst all that, he kept on performing live quite often.

Pressed under some legal and financial difficulties, Fogerty’s solo career started have a bit of downfall afterwards, but he was able to strike back once again in 1985 when he signed up with Warner Bros. and released Centerfield. Featuring his top 10 hit The Old Man Down the Road, his album garnered much success on charts while the aforementioned track still gets fair amount of airplay on Classic Rock Radio channels.

In 1986, Fogerty came up with his follow up studio release titled Eye of the Zombie. The album wasn’t as successful as his previous effort, but it certainly garnered attention. For this album, Fogerty used a bit more darker tone as he addressed to subjects like social turbulence, terrorism etc. The release was shortly followed by a concert tour and before fans could even get John Fogerty tickets, he announced that he won’t be playing any CCR songs on his tour.

As a solo musician, Fogerty had yet another major boost in commercial success following the release of his 1997 album called Blue Moon Swamp. Not only did the album garner more success as compared to Zombie and Swamp, it also went on to win a Grammy Award for the Best Rock Album that year. The release was then followed by yet another successful concert tour. The following year on October 1, Fogerty was also honored with a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. After the Swamp, Fogerty has released three more studio albums by far, while the fourth one being in the pipeline.
